In 2019 I co-organized some community events that amplified voices in arts-based protest against sexual violence. Even though this isn’t typical portfolio art, I want to highlight the ecosystem of creative labour, event planning, fundraising, and community collaboration involved that continuously informs my creative research projects today. I am super proud of this work accomplished with my co-organizers Dana Lam, Diana Richtman, and Kate Jenkins Grier.
Dance Back the Night (2019) was a fundraiser night of dance and drag at The Caledonia Lounge in Athens, Georgia for Take Back the Night, an annual community open-mic, street march, and fundraiser for The Cottage and Project Safe Inc, which are organizations that serve individuals and families impacted by sexual violence in Athens.
